CONTRIBUTING TO AMERICAN HISTORY ONE BOOK AT A TIME
Anita Hackley Lambert
Lambert is a West Virginia–based historian and genealogist whose scholarship examines African American biography, intellectual history, lineage, and spiritual autobiography. She is the author of eight nonfiction books, comprising three biographical studies, two spiritual memoirs, and a three-book devotional series that integrates historical inquiry with reflective and pastoral writing.
Her biographical works contribute to the recovery of marginalized Black figures and intellectual networks, while her memoirs and devotionals extend her inquiry into questions of moral formation, cultural memory, and personal resilience. Collectively, her body of work demonstrates how archival research, genealogy, and lived experience can function as complementary modes of historical and cultural analysis.

F.H.M. Murray: First Biography Of A Forgotten Pioneer For Civil Justice (First Edition)
Freeman Henry Morris Murray was a leading civil rights advocate during a time when standing up for the right causes required men of his stature. He was a progressive thinker who worked largely behind the scenes; as a co-founder of both the Niagara Movement and the NAACP, Murray used his business empires to support W.E.B. Dubois. He became the first Black art historian and author, a polymath and self-taught polyglot who dared to make a difference. Like many African Americans of his era, he largely went overlooked.
The Business of Emancipation: From Alexandria to Black Broadway: The Life and Legacy of Freeman Henry Morris Murray (Second Edition)
For more than five decades, Freeman Henry Morris Murray quietly transformed the lives of Black Americans during the Reconstruction era and the height of Jim Crow segregation. A polymath, publisher, entrepreneur, art historian, humanitarian, and architect of Black economic freedom, Murray built systems that weakened Jim Crow without spectacle, permission, or apology. His work showcases how disciplined institution-building, economic strategy, and intellectual labor, in addition to protest, shaped African American history.
